Former TEMPERANCE HALL
The Lewisham Temperance Hall, located at 233-241 Lewisham High Street, is a Grade II listed building originally built in 1909-10 as a Temperance Billiard Hall, providing a place for recreational activities in line with the Temperance movement's aim to reduce alcohol consumption. After being used as Rileys Pool & Snooker Club, the building was bought by the Tabernacle Church and is now being converted into a church

CLOCK TOWER
TOWER HOUSE. Former ROYAL ARSENAL CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY
Original CAROLINE’S post: “ RACS may have begun as a food shop in Plumstead, but it grew to offer a huge range of products and services: books, jewellery, shoes, pharmacy, catering, hairdressers, laundry, travel agency, hotels, life insurance and even an undertaker's. It constructed housing on the Bostall Estate, had an education section and was politically active. Around 1975, the society counted half a million members - but a decade later it had declined drastically and merged with the national co-operative society.”
A reply : “As you'll see, the Tower has the dates 1868 and 1933, thus it celebrates 65 years from the year the Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society was established by 20 workers from the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich. It was the flagship building for Lewisham at a time when "the Co-op" fulfilled many people's shopping needs. The RACS had similar "flagship" buildings in Peckham and at their headquarters in Woolwich. By the way, there is no "national Co-operative society" as many towns in the provinces still have their own independent productive, consumer or federal societies, e.g Heart of England Co-operative Society, Chelmsford Star Co-operative Society, etc.”
HELCH ?
Helch: The Mysterious Graffiti Phenomenon Sweeping LondonSince 2018, the word “Helch” has become a mysterious presence across London's streets, appearing in various locations with no clear meaning. While the term's popularity has grown, there's no consensus on what it stands for, and it might not mean anything at all.
